The 2020 Major Series Lacrosse Entry Draft of graduating junior players is taking place on Monday, January 27th at the Peterborough Memorial Center beginning at 8:00 p.m. The draft creates an opportunity for all non-protected graduating junior players from Ontario to be selected by an MSL team. A total of 30 players will be drafted over 5 rounds by the six MSL teams. The tentative draft order is found below. Note – this draft order is subject to change dependent upon trades prior to the Entry Draft.
MSL Commissioner Doug Luey noted the significance of the Entry Draft commenting, “We are looking forward to this year’s draft with over 50 junior clubs producing great lacrosse players ready to step in and compete at the MSL level. Ontario junior lacrosse programs have been developing the best players in the world for a very long time. The entry draft allows teams to upgrade and provide excellent players to MSL and continue the parity MSL has been enjoying the past few seasons.”
A glance at the round by round draft order reveals the Brooklin Lacrosse Club has seven selections including three in the first round (Picks 1, 4 and 5). Also, with seven picks is Cobourg including two choices in the second round and three selections in the fourth round.
Similar to 2019, the Brampton Excelsiors have the most selections with eight (27%) of the total selections available. With no first-round pick, the Excelsiors have two selections in each of Rounds, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
