Dustyn Birkhof scored with 2:20 remaining in regulation time to give the Cobourg Kodiaks a 6-5 win over the Brampton Excelsiors Thursday at the BMC.
Matt Marinier, Jackson Nishimura and Scott Dominey set the tone for the game giving the Kodiaks a lead after one period. Connor McClelland had the lone Excelsiors response.
Holden Patterson inched the home side closer with the lone goal of the second period.
Zach Sunderland scored twice for the Excelsiors to give his team its first lead of the game, before newly acquired Brock Haley responded for the Kodiaks. MAtthew Bennett then scored to give the Excelsiors another lead, before Braedon Saris tied things up with five minutes to go, setting up Birkhof's heroics.
