Chiefs Continue To Dominate

  By Gary Groob

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (1-1) had their biggest test of this young season so far, taking on the Six Nations Chiefs (4-0) in Major Series Lacrosse action Tuesday evening.

The goaltending match-up had Aden Walsh in net for Brooklin facing Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs used their trademark combination of transition pressure and star power to gradually pull away from Brooklin in a fast-paced offensive battle. Brooklin refused to go quietly early on, answering every Six Nations strike through the opening period as goals from Will MacLeod, Zach Terry, and Chase Scanlon repeatedly erased deficits. But despite Brooklin's pushback, timely scoring from Travis Longboat and a late marker from Lyle Thompson sent Six Nations into the first intermission with momentum and a 4-3 lead.

That momentum only grew as the game wore on. Six Nations dominated key stretches of the second and third periods, with transition goals and quick-strike offense creating separation on the scoreboard. Ian MacKay and Ryan Smith sparked the middle frame, while Dhane Smith took over late with a four-point period that buried any hopes of a Brooklin comeback. Connor Kearnan and Chase Scanlon continued to battle offensively for the BLC, but the Chiefs' relentless attack and ability to capitalize in transition proved too much to overcome in a convincing 13-8 victory.

To The Game:

Travis Longboat opened the scoring for the Chiefs from the top of the crease off a Dhane Smith pass at 0:55 seconds, but Will MacLeod replied with a low shot off a Connor Kearnan pass at 2:52 to tie the game.

Six Nations regained the lead with Dawson Theede wiring a Cody Jamieson feed at 5:14, but again Brooklin responded with an outside blast from Zach Terry off an Eddie Renaud pass 0:36 seconds later.

On a delayed penalty, Travis Longboat scored his second of the period from in close off a Dhane Smith pass at 10:03, but a laser from Chase Scanlon to the corner off a Zach Terry feed tied the game once again at 15:10.

Late in the frame, Lyle Thompson gave the Chiefs the lead on a skipped shot from the outside off a Cody Jamieson pass at 17:01.

After one period, Six Nations 4 Brooklin 3.

Second Period:

Six Nations opened the second period scoring with Graeme Hossack being sent in all alone off a Kason Tarbell pass in transition at 6:53, followed by Ian MacKay off a long lead pass from Doug Jamieson at 8:20.

Eddie Renaud scored back to back goals for Brooklin to get them back in the game. The first was a high to low shot through the five-hole off a Connor Kearnan pass at 9:11, followed by a shot to the far corner off a Chase Scanlon feed at 12:29.

Ian MacKay stopped the Brooklin momentum with a transition goal off a long lead pass from Tyson Bell at 14:01, followed by Ryan Smith with a beautiful twister from in close off a Travis Longboat feed at 15:10.  Smith then scored again diving across the crease while shorthanded to increase the lead to four goals at 18:33.

After two periods, Six Nations 9 Brooklin 5.

Third Period:

Dhane Smith increased the Six Nations lead with a pair of goals to open the period.   The first was in transition off a long lead pass from Latrell Harris through the five-hole of Aden Walsh at 1:43, followed by a high to low blast off a Dawson Theede pass at 2:49.

Connor Kearnan got one back on the power-play tip toeing across the crease off a Chase Scanlon pass at 3:15, but Andrew Kew answered with a low bounced shot off a Dhane Smith pass at 11:21.

Connor Kearnan scored again on the power-play with an outside blast off a Will MacLeod pass at 13:06, but Dhane Smith answered immediately with an outside blast off an Andrew Kew feed 0:27 seconds later.

Chase Scanlon then finished a Connor Kearnan pass with a quick stick at 14:15, but that would be all the Chiefs defense would allow.

Final score, Six Nations 13 Brooklin 8.
