Chiefs Grab Early Lead And Coast To Victory

The Six Nations Chiefs (2-0) fresh off their 12-0 shutout of Owen Sound traveled east to face the Peterborough Lakers (0-1) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs facing Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers.
The Six Nations Chiefs put together a dominant all-around effort to defeat the
Peterborough Lakers 11-6, controlling the pace from start to finish. Davin Bomberry opened the scoring early before Dylan Hutchison briefly tied the game for Peterborough, but the Chiefs quickly seized momentum behind a relentless offensive attack. Ian MacKay scored twice in the opening period, while Shayne Jackson and Ryan Smith added late goals to give Six Nations a commanding 5-1 lead after one. The Chiefs continued to roll in the second period as Chris Cloutier struck twice in the opening minutes, helping extend the advantage despite power-play goals from Justin Sykes and Rob Hellyer that kept the Lakers within striking distance.
Six Nations shut the door in the third period with timely transition play and balanced scoring. Chris Cloutier completed another big night with a shorthanded marker less than a minute into the frame before Andrew Kew buried his second of the game to restore full control. Dhane Smith added a power-play goal and finished with another outstanding multi-point performance as the Chiefs continued to spread the offense throughout the lineup. Carter Page and Matt Gilray added late goals for Peterborough, but the Lakers could never recover from the early deficit as Six Nations walked away with an impressive 11-6 victory.
To The Game:
Davin Bomberry opened the scoring with an outside blast off a Dhane Smith pass at 1:07, but a low to laser from Dylan Hutchison off a Colton Armitage pass at 7:09 tied the game.
Ian MacKay then scored back to back goals for the Lakers. The first was an in close laser off a Dhane Smith pass at 8:35, foĺlowed by an unassisted tally going coast to coast at 11:13.
Shayne Jackson added another marker on a bounced shot from a Josh Byrne feed at 15:23, followed by Ryan Smith with a sidearm snipe off a Dhane Smith pass at 18:02.
After one period, Six Nations 5 Peterborough 1.
Second Period:
Chris Cloutier opened the second period scoring with back to back goals. The first was a low to low blast just 0:24 seconds into the frame, followed by a laser from in close off an Andrew Kew pass at 2:08.
Rob Hellyer finally got the Lakers on the board once again with an outside blast off a Braedon Saris pass at 4:18, but Andrew Kew responded from the inside off a Ryan Smith pass at 8:09.
Justin Sykes quick sticked a Rob Hellyer feed at 13:43 on the power-play, followed by Hellyer himself with his second of the game off a Matt Gilray pass at 16:23 also on the power-play to get the Lakers back in the game.
After two periods, Six Nations 8 Peterborough 4.
Third Period:
Chris Cloutier opened the third period scoring shorthanded off a Kyle Rubisch feed at 0:59 seconds, followed by Andrew Kew with a low laser to the corner off a Shayne Jackson pass at 4:40.
Dhane Smith added a power-play goal from in close off an Andrew Kew pass at 12:57, but Carter Page ripped a sidearm snipe off a Rob Hellyer pass at 13:55.
Matt Gilray scored a beauty for the Lakers from the top of the crease off a Justin Sykes pass at 17:39, but it was too little too late.
