The Six Nations Chiefs answered in a big way, scoring 10 unanswered goals to defeat the Peterborough Lakers 13-5 Monday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
The victory gives the Chiefs a 3-0 series lead and pushes the four-time defending champions to the brink in the Major Series Lacrosse championship final.
Randy Staats led the Chiefs with three goals and three assists, while Shayne Jackson scored twice and added four helpers.
Staats scored twice in the first period, while Taite Cattoni and Thomas Hoggarth replied to each goal.
After Lyle Thompson extended the lead early in the second period, Hoggarth struck two more times, while Holden Cattoni added one, giving the Lakers its first lead of the game.
But the Chiefs roared back with Randy Staats, Jackson, Tyson Bell, and Ben McIntosh adding to the lead.
The Chiefs tacked on six more goals in the third period thanks to Ty Logan, Austin Staats, Jackson, Thompson, McIntosh, and Brad Kri.
Doug Jamieson was again fantastic between the Chiefs' pipes to get his second win of the series.
Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Wednesday at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
