The Six Nations Chiefs (9-0) traveled east to face the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (5-6) in Major Series Lacrosse action Saturday evening at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre.
The goaltending match-up had Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs facing Aden Walsh in net for Brooklin.
The Six Nations Chiefs continued their dominant march through the Major Series Lacrosse season on Saturday night, defeating the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) 11-6 at Iroquois Park Sports Centre to remain unbeaten at 9-0. After a tightly contested opening period, the Chiefs' depth, transition game, and lethal power play proved too much to overcome, as they gradually pulled away behind a balanced offensive attack and another steady performance from Warren Hill.
Brooklin showed plenty of resilience throughout the contest, with Lucas Littlejohn and Hanson Peck each scoring twice, but every time the home side generated momentum, Six Nations had an immediate answer. Shayne Jackson led the way with a hat trick—all on the power play—while Ryan Smith, Dawson Theede, Graeme Hossack, and David Peterkin all played key roles in an offense that struck in every situation. The victory keeps the Chiefs perfect through nine games, while Brooklin falls to 5-6 despite another determined effort against the league's top team.
To The Game:
Brooklin got off to a good start with Cam Acchione firing an outside screenshot off a Chase Scanlon pass at 3:50, but Ian MacKay answered in transition going coast to coast firing a laser to the shortside unassisted at 7:58.
Ryan Smith then gave the Chiefs a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night with a great individual effort off a Dawson Theede pass at 9:19, followed by Chris Cloutier on the power-play with a dunk shot from the top off the crease off a Tyler Biles feed at 15:22.
After one period, Six Nations 3 Brooklin 1.
Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 20-11.
Second Period:
Lucas Littlejohn opened the second period scoring for the BLC converting a Hanson Peck pass in transition at 2:53, but the Chiefs would take the game over scoring four unanswered goals in the frame.
Andrew Kew was left alone in front of the net finishing a rebound off a Ryan Smith shot at 3:44, followed by a quick stick power-play marker from Shayne Jackson off a Ryan Smith feed at 9:12.
Jackson added another power-play goal again with a quick stick off a Cody Jamieson pass at 17:04, followed by Dawson Theede diving across the crease off a Jamieson feed at 18:04.
After two periods, Six Nations 7 Brooklin 2.
Shots on goal favored the BLC 18-14.
Third Period:
The Chiefs increased their lead early in the period on a great individual effort from Graeme Hossack burying a sidearm shot at 2:09.
Eddie Renaud got the BLC back on track with a high to low bounce shot off a Lucas Littlejohn pass at 2:33, but Latrell Harris fired a high to high blast off a Hossack feed just 8 seconds later to stop the Brooklin momentum.
Hanson Peck kept Brooklin fighting with a beautiful finish at the top of the crease off a Cam Acchione pass at 3:23.
Shayne Jackson's third of the game on the power-play again stopped the BLC momentum at 10:28, followed by David Peterkin with a quick stick of his own off a Jackson feed at 12:11.
Brooklin did finish strong with a pair of late goals. Lucas Littlejohn fired a low to low shot to the far corner off an Eddie Renaud pass at 13:42, followed by Hanson Peck with a shorthanded marker from the outside off a Jack Oldman feed at 17:19.
Final score, Six Nations 11 Brooklin 6.
Shots on goal favored the BLC 18-16, for a game total of 50-47 in favor of the Chiefs.
