Dhane Smith scored two goals and two assists, while Doug Jamieson and the defence kept the Western Lacrosse Association champs at bay, to lead the Six Nations Chiefs to a 7-5 victory over the Victoria Shamrocks on Monday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The Chiefs now lead the best-of-seven Mann Cup championship series 2-1.

The visitors from out west had most of the momentum in the first period, thanks to goals from Trent Dicicco, Caey Wilson, Chris Wardle, and Will Malcom. Shayne Jackson and Eli McLaughlin responded.

Wilson continued to lead the Shamrocks in the second period, scoring his second goal of the game. But then the Chiefs roared back in a big way. Travis Longboat, Smith and Jackson tallied to tie things up after 40 minutes.

In the third period, Smith scored the game-winner less than two minutes into the frame, with Randy Staats adding an insurance marker midway through.

Doug Jamieson got the win with a 33-stop effort. Chris Origlieri made 43 saves in a losing effort.

Game 4 of the Canadian senior A box lacrosse championship is Tuesday at the ILA at 8pm.

NOTES: Dhane Smith was named Player of the Game for the Chiefs, while Dicicco earned the honour for the Shamrocks.
