Excelsiors earn first win to spoil Lakers home opener

Josh Medeiros' second goal of the game midway through the third period was the eventual game-winner, as the Brampton Excelsiors came away with a 14-13 win over the Peterborough Lakers to give them its first win of the Major Series Lacrosse season.

Robert Hudson, James Whiteford and Carter Zavitz got the Excelsiors going strong after watching the Lakers lift its fourth Mann Cup banner to the rafters.

Taite Cattoni, Thomas Hoggarth and Mitch Ogilvie tied things up for the defending champs, before the Excelsiors went on another run late in the frame thanks to Seth VanShepen, Tanner Thomson and Medeiros.

In the second period, Thomson and Robert Hudson each scored a pair of goals. Holden Cattoni responded with a pair of goals and Josh Currier had one.

The third period was a wild one, with Zavitz, Thomson, Lucas Ferreira and Medeiros scoring for the Excelsiors, which was enough to pull away.

The Lakers tried to come back. But it was too little too late. Holden Cattoni scored a hat trick in the final frame, while Turner Evans and Taite Catttoni netted a pair each.
