Excelsiors end regular season on a high note with win over Rock


Blake Gibson-McDonald scored with just under four minutes to go in regulation to give the Brampton Excelsiors a 9-8 win over the Oakville Rock Tuesday at the TRAC.

JP Ward, Andrew Borgatti, and Lucas Ferreira each scored goals in the first period for the visiting Excelsiors. Tyler Hendrykcks, Mike McCannell, and Ryan Lanchbury scored for the Rock.

The Excelsiors went on a three-goal run that proved to be the difference. After Andrew Kew opened the scoring for the Rock, Josh Medeiros, Connor McClelland and Ward scored for the visitors, while Alex Kew replied for the Rock.

After Borgatti opened the third-period scoring, Sam English, Lanchbury, and Josh Dawick made a push for the Rock to take the lead. Matthew Bennett replied for the Excelsiors, setting up Gibson-McDonald's game-winner.

Will Johnston made 49 saves to earn the win for the Excelsiors, while Nick Rose made 47 stops in the loss.
