Home Opener Excitement Diffused by Loss to Kodiaks

By Mark Stehlin
The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) suffered their second loss in a week, the latest on the occasion of the team’s 2026 home opener. The squad started the new season a week ago with a 13-7 win in Brampton. They traveled to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Tuesday night to tangle with the defending Mann Cup champion Six Nations Chiefs and were handed a 13-8 loss.
Less than 24 hours later they were on their own turf for their much-anticipated home opener. They hosted the Cobourg Kodiaks who, as a result of a 10-8 win, did not give BLC fans a chance to celebrate. Brooklin now owns a 1-2 record in this early stage of the season.
Veterans Dan Lintner and Ryan Barnable each scored in the first period as did Shane Halliwell in a Kodiaks jersey. At the end of twenty minutes it was 2-1 for the home side. Halliwell is no stranger to the turf at Iroquois Park as he suits up for the Brooklin Merchants in Senior B play. He was acquired by the Merchants in a pre-season deal with the Hamilton Bengals that saw Eddie Renaud go the other way.
The second period started well for BLC as they rattled off three straight goals. Will MacLeod, named Rookie of the Year for the Halifax Thunderbirds of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) got the first. This was followed by Lintner’s second of the night and one by Connor Kearnan. With five minutes on the clock in the second, Chris Boushy fresh off an NLL championship with the Toronto Rock, made it 6-3 for BLC. Halliwell added another late and BLC had the 6-4 lead heading into the final period.
It would be Cobourg’s turn to show off their offensive prowess, they fired home the first three goals of the final period to take a 7-6 lead with 6:45 showing on the clock. Lintner tied the game at 8-8 with two minutes left. However, Aaron Woods for the Kodiaks would spoil the evening for BLC fans as he scored twice in the last minute to assure his team of the 10-8 win.
Scoring for BLC – Robinson (0,1) O’Reilly (0,4) Lintner (3,0) MacLeod (2,0) Clark (0,2) Boushy (1,0) Sinfield (0,1) Kromer (0,1) Raposo (0,1) Scanlan (0,2) Barnable (1,0) Kearnan (1,3)
In net, Boushy’s teammate on the NLL championship Toronto Rock, Steven Orleman was assessed the loss.
Next up for BLC is a home game on Wednesday June 3, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. when the Brampton Excelsiors are in town.
