LAKERS DROP SECOND GAME OF THE WEEK

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers dropped their second game of the week 12-11 to the Cobourg Kodiaks on Thursday night at the Evinrude Centre. It dips their record to 4-2 and allows the Kodiaks to take over first place in the MSL standings with a 4-1 record.

It was a close game for 40 minutes with the score tied at three after the first. The Lakers held a 9-6 lead at the end of the second after allowing the Kodiaks to take one-goal leads at 5-4 and 6-5 earlier in the period. Five straight goals from Cobourg to start the third period had them up 12-9. The Lakers threw everything they could at Cobourg goaltender Kevin Orleman but were unable to find the equalizer.

Thomas Hoggarth broke out offensively with three goals. Shawn Evans also contributed three goals and four assists. Matt Vinc made 27 saves. Orleman made 51 saves for Cobourg, who were led by three goals from Scott Dominey.

After a busy start to the season, the Lakers have a full week off and will return to action next Thursday, June 21, when they host the Brampton Excelsiors at the Evinrude Centre.
