The Peterborough Lakers rode a quick start to a 13-7 win over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club on Thursday night at home to conclude the Major Series Lacrosse regular season.
Austin Hasen, Thomas Hoggarth, Kiel Matisz and Cory Vitarelli got the Lakers off to the start they wanted before the first period was nine minutes old. Brady Kearnan stopped the bleeding for BLC, before Taste Cattoni and Hasen added to the lead.
Taite Cattoni, Mitch Ogilvie and Holden Cattoni again got the Lakers off to a great start to the second period. Hoggarth and Holden Cattoni also added singles. Connor McClelland, Mitch Wilde and Curtis Knight responded for BLC.
After Holden Cattoni added another goal in the third period, Mitch Wilde, Kearnan and James Whiteford helped BLC mount a comeback. But it was too little, too late, with Zack Thompson scoring his first MSL goal late in the game.
NOTES: Doug Buchan got the win with a 46-stop effort. Nick Damude made 39 stops for BLC. The Lakers victory secures second spot in the MSL standings, one point better than BLC. The same two teams will tangle in the MSL semifinal. That best-of-seven series is set to begin Monday at 7pm. As soon as a schedule is set we will post it.
