Lakers power by Chiefs in Game 1

Five goals in the second period and five more in the third gave the Peterborough Lakers a 10-6 win over the Six Nations Chiefs Tuesday night in Game 1 of the Major Series Lacrosse final.
The Chiefs came out hard in front of the home crowd at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena thanks to a pair of goals from Austin Staats and another by Sam Leclair.
After Joe Resetarits and Shane Simpson exchanged goals to start the second period, the Lakers took over thanks to Cory Vitarelli, Chad Tutton, Resetarits and Mitch Ogilvie.
Staats scored his third goal of the game for the Chiefs to breath some life into his team early in the third frame. But again, the Lakers bounced back with goals from Vitarelli, Austin Hasen, Jay Thorimbert, Ogilvie and Kiel Matisz.
Brendan Bomberry had the lone response.

NOTES: Matisz and Vitarelli led the Lakers charge with four points each. Doug Buchan got the win making 46 stops. Doug Jamieson was chased from the game after making 27 saves, while Warren Hill came in relief. Game 2 of the series is Thursday at 8pm at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. You will be able to watch the game online on the Major Series Lacrosse YouTube page, and on cable television on YourTV Peterborough and RogersTV 20.
