Lakers Pull Away in Third period in decisive 13-6 win over Brampton

Defending Mann Cup Champion Peterborough Lakers led 3-2 after the first period; 6-4 after the second period, before scoring seven goals in the third period in a convincing 13-6 win in the 2019 Major Series Lacrosse season opening game for both teams, played in Brampton.

The teams exchanged short-handed goals to open the first period and no other goals were scored by by either Peterborough or Brampton's specialty teams.  The Lakers’ Turner Evans was impressive scoring twice while adding 5 assists  Holden Cattoni was the leading goal scorer for either team with 4 goals and 2 assists, while Kyle Buchanan netted a hat-trick along with 2 assists.

Phil Caputo tallied 2 goals and 2 assists for Brampton while Dereck Downs added 2 goals. Goaltenders Mike Poulin for Peterborough and Nolan Clayton for Brampton were solid in net throughout the course of the game.

It was a relatively tame game with a total of 11 minor penalties called with 6 minor infractions to Brampton and 5 to the Lakers.

The two teams meet again on Thursday, May 30 in Peterborough when the Lakers will be raising the Mann Cup banner from their 2018 championship.  Game time is 8:00 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
