LAKERS SWEEP EXCELSIORS IN ROUND ONE

The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers are headed back to the MSL final for the fifth consecutive year after a 10-7 win Sunday night gave them the 4-0 semifinal series sweep over the Brampton Excelsiors at Brampton Memorial Arena.

The Lakers led 2-0 early but Brampton rallied and rattled off four goals in fewer than five minutes. Turner Evans replied with a quick-stick and Brock Sorensen scored a shorthanded transition goal to even the game at four-all after the first.

Brampton took a 6-5 lead midway through the second but Mike Poulin stopped all but one shot after that as the Lakers went on to score five of the game’s last six goals. The Lakers’ defense contributed eight points to the game.

Clarke Petterson had a pair of goals for Brampton. Fellow rookie Jeff Teat made five assists. Mike Burke and Jordan Dance each had a goal and two assists.

The Lakers are awaiting the winner of the Six Nations Chiefs vs. Oakville Rock series. The Chiefs lead that series 3-1 with game five set for Monday night in Six Nations. Ticket details for round two will be announced when finalized.
