Lakers win opening playoff game 12-7 over Brampton

Defending Mann Cup champion Peterborough Century 21 Lakers opened their MSL semi-final series against the Brampton Excelsiors with a 12-7 win.

Brampton led only once in the entire game when they had a 3-2 edge at the 13:25 mark of the first period.  The game was tied 5-5 at the 12:31 point of the second period.  But for the most part, the Lakers were never really in danger of losing the game.

Leading the way on offense for the Lakers was Thomas Hoggarth with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Mark Matthews had 2 goals and 3 assists and Corey Small netted a pair of goals and added 2 assists. Kyle Buchanan notched 4 assists.

Goaltender Mike Poulin was solid in net recording the victory for the Lakers.

For the Excelsiors - Jeff Teat, Robert Hudson and Mike Burke each scored twice.

Game 2 of the series is in Brampton on Tuesday, August 6.
