Trailing the Mann Cup series 3-2, the Langley Thunder staved off elimination by defeating the Peterborough Lakers 9-4 in the sixth game of the series.  A loss by the Thunder and the series was over. Langley ensured that was not going to happen as they led on the scoreboard the entire game. Langley held end of period leads of 4-2, 7-3 and the final 9-4.

Leading the way for the Thunder in the pivotal game were the dynamic duo of Dane Dobbie with 4 goals/2 assists and Curtis Dickson with 1 goal and 5 helpers.

Goaltender Frank Scigliano was the Player of the Game for Langley making 49 saves. His counterpart Matt Vinc was selected Player of the Game for Peterborough stopping 39 of 48 shots.

The Lakers scored only 4 goals with no player scoring more than once - Holden Cattoni, Kiel Matisz, Taite Cattoni and Shawn Evans each netted a single tally.

It has been a series with huge momentum shifts.  Langley had led the series 2-0, only to see Peterborough battle back and take a 3-2 lead. With this Thunder win, lacrosse fans can relish a seventh and deciding game to decide the 2022 Mann Cup champion.

Both teams have battled hard. Tonight’s game saw the Langley defence dominate the Lakers with fierce checking, even furious at times.  Several players on both rosters are playing with nagging injuries.  Of note, for Peterborough – Thomas Hoggarth was on the injury list tonight.  Mann Cup all-time leading scorer Shawn Evans left the game in the second period and did not return - which has to be of concern to Lakers’ fans.

The series has shaped up to be everything lacrosse observers thought it could be – two exceptionally skilled and talented teams vying for the most coveted trophy in lacrosse.  The seventh and deciding game of the 2022 Mann Cup series will take place on Saturday with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
