MSL - Week 2 Review

Week 2 of the 2019 Major Series Lacrosse season saw seven games played.

Game 1Six Nations (11) at Oakville (10) – Led by Cody Jamieson’s 3 goals and 2 assists, the Chiefs held on for an 11-10 win, outscoring the Rock 2-0 in the third period. Lyle Thomson added 2 goals and 2 assists in the Six Nations win. Goaltender Dillon Ward faced 62 shots, making 52 saves to record the win.  Andrew Kew sniped 4 goals while adding 3 assists to pace the Oakville offence.  Rob Hellyer added 6 assists in a losing effort.

Game 2Peterborough (12) at Six Nations (8) – Tied 3-3 at the end of the first period, the Lakers led 9-7 at the end of the second period and outscored Six Nations 3-1 in the third period to record the 12-8 win.  Holden Cattoni led all scorers netting 4 goals and added 3 assists for a 7 point game.  Lyle Thompson and Randy Staats both had 2 goals and 3 assists for the Chiefs.  Goaltender Mike Poulin recorded the win in the Lakers’ net.

Game 3Cobourg (12) at Brooklin (7) – The Brooklin Lacrosse Club home opener was ruined by the visiting Kodiaks.  Brooklin led 5-4 after the second period.  However, Cobourg outscored Brooklin 8-2 in the third period as Cobourg defeated Brooklin for the second game in a row. Kyle Killen had a 5-point game including 4 goals to lead the Kodiaks. Scott Dominey added 3 goals. Jake Fox and Dawson Theede each scored twice for Brooklin.  Goaltender Kevin Orleman recorded the win for Cobourg.

Game 4Oakville (11) at Brampton (10) - Challen Rogers, Andrew Kew and Trevor Smyth each scored two goals to pace the Oakville win. Mike Burke, Phil Caputo and Clarke Petterson each scored a pair for Brampton.  Jeff Teat led all point getters with 1 goal and 5 assists. Goaltender Craig Wende recorded the win for the Rock.

Game 5Brooklin (9) at Peterborough (10) - Down 9-6 at the end of the second period the Brooklin Lacrosse Club battled hard outscoring Peterborough 3-1 in the third period, but fell short in a 10-9 loss as Cory Vitarelli scored the game winning goal on a power play with just 1:43 left in the game to end the game with a hat-trick.  Shawn Evans had a five assist effort.  Goaltender Mike Poulin made 40 saves to record the win.  Austin Murphy scored a pair of goals and added four assists for Brooklin.

Game 6Brampton (4) at Cobourg (9) - Leading 4-0 at the end of the first period, the Kodiaks utilized a balanced scoring attack to defeat Brampton.  Scott Dominey had a three-goal game for the Kodiaks.  Goaltender Kevin Orleman continued his early season success recording his third win. Mike Burke had a goal and assist for the winless Excelsiors.

Game 7Six Nations (13) at Cobourg (8) - Led by Randy Staats 10-point night (4 goals and 6 assists), the Chiefs picked up their third win of the 2019 season.  Jordan Durston had a goal and five assists as Kyle Kilgour added 2 goals and 3 assists in Six Nations’ offensive outburst.  Cobourg rookie Mark Vradenburg netted two goals and added a pair of assists for the Kodiaks.  Cam Milligan added a goal and three assists in the losing effort.  Goaltender Doug Jamieson earned the win for the Chiefs.

Peterborough went 2-0 defeating Six Nations, and Brooklin.

Cobourg went 2-1 defeating Brooklin, and Brampton, but losing to Six Nations.

Six Nations went 2-1 defeating Oakville, and Cobourg, but losing to Peterborough.

Oakville went 1-1 beating Brampton, but losing to Six Nations.

Brooklin went 0-2 losing to Cobourg, and Peterborough.

Brampton went 0-2 losing to Oakville, and Cobourg.
