MSL - Week 4 Review

Week 4 of the 2019 Major Series Lacrosse season saw five games played including Six Nations and Peterborough winning a pair of games. The Cobourg Kodiaks had a winless week losing twice. The Brooklin Lacrosse Club added two more losses to bring their season to 0-7.

Game 1Brooklin (5) at Oakville (11) – Scoring 4 goals in the first period and 5 in the second period, the Oakville Rock built up a 9-3 lead. Rob Hellyer led the Rock scoring parade with 4 goals and 2 assists. Connor Kearnan scored twice for the Brooklin Lacrosse Club. Goaltender Nick Rose made 39 saves while recording the win.

Game 2Cobourg (6) at Six Nations (11) – Out-shooting Cobourg 53-26, Six Nations build up an 8-4 lead by the end of the second period.  Brendan Bomberry had a 4-goal game for the Chiefs.  Other offensive contributors included Randy Staats with 3 goals and 3 assists.  Cody Jamieson had a pair of goals and 2 assists.  Goaltender Doug Jamieson recorded the win for Six Nations.  Kodiaks leading point scorer Scott Dominey had 2 goals and an assist in a losing cause.

Game 3Six Nations (9) at Brooklin (7) –  In the first overtime game of the 2019 MSL season, the Brooklin Lacrosse Club continued their difficult season losing in overtime 9-7 to the visiting Six Nations Chiefs. The Chiefs opened up a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period and were paced by Lyle Thompson who had a 4-goal game.  Randy Staats added 5 assists.  Brooklin rallied in the third period 4-2 to send the game into overtime.  Six Nations scored the only two goals of the overtime period as goaltender Doug Jamieson recorded the victory in nets. Curtis Knight, Jeff Wittig and Connor Kearnan each scored a pair for Brooklin.

Game 4Brampton (8) at Peterborough (13) – Winning all three periods, the Lakers played a solid game to record the win.  Shawn Evans had a single goal but led all point getters with 7 assists.  Josh Currier and Joe Resetarits each had 3 goals for the Lakers.  Jeff Teat had a 5-point game (3 goals, 2 assists) and Michael Burke scored twice for Brampton. Goaltender Matt Vinc made 46 saves in recording the win.  Of note, Jeff Teat leads all rookies in scoring and is tied with Peterborough’s Holden Cattoni and Cobourg’s Scott Dominey with 13 goals each with most goals scored by individual players.

Game 5Peterborough (8) at Cobourg (4) – The visiting Lakers opened up a 4-0 lead by the end of the first period and expanded it to 7-1 by the end of the second period.  The victory was Peterborough’s sixth win of the season earning them first overall position in the MSL.  Kyle Buchanan had one goal and 5 assists to lead the Lakers.   Corey Small, Holden Cattoni and Thomas Hoggarth each had 2 goals and 1 assist. Goaltender Mike Poulin recorded the win for the Lakers.  Rookie Mark Vradenburg had a pair of goals for the Kodiaks.  Although held to a single assist, Lakers’ Shawn Evans leads the league scoring with 33 points.
