Pre-season flurry of activity in MSL

Brooklin Name Change

Brooklin’s Major Series Lacrosse squad has a new name. The franchise’s Board of Directors has  dropped the moniker Redmen and decided to be called the Brooklin Lacrosse Club. In addition, the club unveiled a new look with two logo changes.

Blockbuster Trade

The Six Nations Chiefs and Brooklin Lacrosse Club completed a blockbuster trade with Brooklin trading the playing rights of brothers Lyle and Miles Thompson along with Kevin Brownell to Six Nations.  In return, the Chiefs gave up their first-round picks in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 MSL Entry Drafts, along with Dylan Riley.

Brooklin also acquired Six Nations’ third-round draft pick (a selection the Chiefs had previously acquired in a deal with the Cobourg Kodiaks) in the 2020 draft, as well as second and third-round picks in the 2022 draft. Brooklin also received a conditional second-round pick in 2023. They will get that selection only if Miles Thompson plays for the Chiefs either this season or in 2020.

Other Significant Trades

Goaltender Mike Poulin was traded from Brooklin to Peterborough.  Brooklin received the Lakers’ first-round picks in both the 2021 and 2022 MSL Entry Drafts.

Brampton Excelsiors traded Joe Resetarits to Peterborough for defender Dylan Evans and a first-round pick in 2020.

The Peterborough Lakers received Kiel Matisz from Brooklin for Tyler Gaulton and Jake Fox.

Coaching Changes in Brampton and Brooklin

Brampton Excelsiors have a new Head Coach in Dan Teat.  He will be assisted by Kevin Dance, Brian Beisel and Chris Driscoll.

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club announced that Head Coach Derek Keenan and Assistant Coach Gil Nieuwyndyk will not be returning.  The Club will be announcing their new bench staff prior to the beginning of the 2019 MSL season.

 MSL Players Headed to WLA

Nick Finlay has left the Cobourg Kodiaks to join the Nanaimo Timbermen

Other news out of Brooklin is the loss of four key players to the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA). Ryan Keenan has been dealt to the Maple Ridge Burrards. Austin Shanks is headed to the New Westminster Salmonbellies. In addition, Graeme Hossack and Adrian Sorichetti will be joining the Victoria Shamrocks.
