Six Nations win Opening Game 8-7 in Overtime

In a game marked by stellar defensive play and solid goaltending, the Six Nations Chiefs edged the Oakville Rock 8-7 in overtime to win the first game of the best of seven series.

Falling behind 2-0 the Chiefs rebounded to lead 3-2 by the end of the first period. The teams continued to exchange goals and Oakville led 5-4 by the end of the second period.

Early in the third period, the Rock opened up a 6-4 lead, but the Chiefs rebounded to tie the score sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, Six Nations controlled possession of the ball scoring twice opening an 8-6 lead.  Oakville added one more goal closing the gap, but were unable to tie the game, concluding with an 8-7 Chiefs win.

As the score would suggest, both Doug Jamieson for Six Nations and Nick Rose for Oakville were strong in nets.  Corey Highfield scored three goals for the losing Rock.  Lyle Thompson had a hat-trick including the game winning goal for the Chiefs.

Game two of the series is in Oakville on Tuesday beginning at 8:00 p.m.
