Staats nets six in come from behind Game 1 win

Austin Staats had himself a game Wednesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
Staats scored a hat trick in the second period and did the same thing in the third to lead the charge as the Six Nations Chiefs came from behind to beat the Cobourg Kodiaks 10-9 in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal.
Though Shane Simpson gave the Chiefs an early lead, the Kodiaks came roaring back with Kealan Pilon, Riley Curtis and Chris Weier giving their team the lead.
Vaughn Harris responded late in the frame.
The Kodiaks came out in the second period hot, scoring three straight thanks to Alex Simmons, Tanner Buck and Cam Milligan. Aaron Woods also scored for the Kodiaks.
Then Staats took over.
Staats scored three to lead the Chiefs comeback, while Harris notched his second of the game.
Sam Leclair tied the game up and Staats netted three more to complete the comeback with 25 seconds to go in regulation.
Pilon and Buck scored for the Kodiaks.

NOTES: Doug Jamieson made 33 stops in the win, while Steve Orleman stopped 44 Chiefs shots. Special teams were huge in this one. The Kodiaks scored three goals on the power play and one short handed. The Chiefs netted one while a man down. Game 2 of the series is in Baltimore on Friday at 8pm. That game will be available on YourTV Northumberland and RogersTV 20 cable.
