Andrew Kidd's career has followed that path.
From his beginnings in Toronto to becoming one of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League's top young netminders, Kidd has steadily earned every opportunity that has come his way. Today, he's viewed as one of the brightest young goaltending prospects in the game, combining athleticism, poise, and an unwavering work ethic.

His story isn't about arriving—it's about building toward something special.

Early Years

Growing up in Toronto, Kidd developed through the Toronto Beaches organization, where he learned the fundamentals of the position from an early age.

Even as a young goaltender, he displayed composure beyond his years. While many young goalies rely strictly on athleticism, Kidd developed a reputation for reading shooters, staying square to the ball, and never letting one goal affect the next save.

Those traits would become the foundation of his game.

Climbing the Ladder

Kidd's junior career with the Toronto Beaches showcased his rapid development.

In 2022, he helped backstop the Beaches to a Minto Cup appearance, gaining valuable experience against Canada's best junior players. The following season he became the club's full-time starter, posting an impressive goals-against average while establishing himself as one of the OJLL's premier young goaltenders. 

His performances caught the attention of National Lacrosse League scouts, who saw not only his physical ability but also his calm demeanor under pressure.

Education

Away from box lacrosse, Kidd continued his education at Brock University, balancing academics with athletics while continuing to develop his game. That ability to manage both school and elite-level competition reflects the discipline required to succeed as a modern athlete.

National Lacrosse League

Kidd's progress was rewarded when he was selected in the 2023 NLL Entry Draft by the Albany FireWolves, a franchise that later became the Oshawa FireWolves. 

Breaking into the National Lacrosse League as a young goaltender is never easy. The shooters are stronger, quicker, and more experienced than anything a junior player has faced.

Rather than rushing his development, Kidd has embraced the opportunity to learn from veteran teammates while gaining valuable professional experience.

For goaltenders, patience is often one of the greatest strengths.

Major Series Lacrosse

Joining the Owen Sound NorthStars, Kidd has quickly demonstrated why he's regarded as one of the league's promising young goalies.

Despite his youth, he's shown the confidence to face some of the world's best shooters without backing down. His athletic style, quick hands, and willingness to battle through heavy traffic have already produced impressive performances.

As Owen Sound continues to build toward the future, Kidd represents an important piece of that foundation.

Goaltenders often don't receive the same attention as the players filling the scoresheet, but anyone who has covered this game long enough knows they're often the difference between winning and losing.

What stands out to me about Andrew Kidd is his composure. He doesn't look rattled. Whether he's facing a breakaway or a barrage of shots during a penalty kill, he seems to stay focused on the next save instead of the last goal.

I've watched him stand tall behind teams that have spent long stretches defending against relentless pressure, and he's continued to compete. That's a quality every great goaltender needs. They don't quit on a game, and they don't quit on their teammates.

Andrew Kidd is still writing the early chapters of his career, but I believe his best lacrosse is ahead of him. As he gains experience at both the Major Series and National Lacrosse League levels, I expect him to grow into one of the outstanding goaltenders of his generation.
