Anderson Leads Cobourg Charge In Statement Win Over Brooklin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (5-4) traveled east to face the Cobourg Kodiaks (3-3) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Aden Walsh in net for Brooklin facing Laine Hruska in net for the Kodiaks. 

The Cobourg Kodiaks used a pair of explosive scoring runs and a dominant offensive performance to earn a convincing 14-9 victory over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC)Thursday night at the Cobourg Community Centre. After falling behind 3-1 midway through the opening period, the Kodiaks responded with three goals in just 49 seconds late in the frame to take a 4-3 lead. Cobourg continued to apply pressure throughout the contest, led by a four-goal performance from David Anderson and a strong night from Brock Haley, who contributed a goal and multiple assists. The Kodiaks outshot Brooklin 59-46 and capitalized on key momentum swings to control much of the game.

Brooklin showed plenty of fight, battling back from a three-goal deficit in the second period and later cutting the margin to two goals early in the third thanks to consecutive power-play markers from Dan Lintner and Chase Scanlon. However, every time the BLC mounted a challenge, Cobourg had an answer. Alex Marinier scored twice in the third period while Anderson completed his four-goal night to help the Kodiaks win 14-9.

To The Game:

The Kodiaks got rolling early on a great individual effort from Taylor Dooley at 5:07, but a power-play marker from Chase Scanlon evened the score off a Dan Lintner pass at 8:04.

The BLC took their first lead when Landon Sinfield blasted a low to low shot off a Dyson Williams pass at 10:11, followed by Ben Kromer wiring a shot in shorthanded at 11:42.

Cobourg put together a late flurry, scoring three goals in 49 seconds.  The first had David Anderson converting a Will White pass at 17:25, followed by Alex Marinier with a low bounced shot off a Brock Haley feed 22 seconds later.  Haley then added a tally himself to give the Kodiaks the lead off a Marinier feed at 18:14.

Shots on goal favored Cobourg 23-20.

Second Period:

David Anderson opened the second period scoring increasing the Cobourg lead with a blast off a Thunder Hill feed at 2:51, but Brooklin stormed back with a pair to tie the game.

Dan Lintner scored unassisted on the power-play to get the BLC within one at 6:05, followed by Dyson Williams with a low to low blast off a MacCoy Abrams pass 50 seconds later.

The Kodiaks put together another solid run with four unanswered markers to end the period.  Thunder Hill blasted a low to high shot unassisted at 13:29, followed by Briley Maxwell converting a Brock Haley pass from in close at 15:43.

David Anderson then fired an outside laser off a Thunder Hill pass at 16:58, followed by Brock Haley finishing a Zach Thompson feed from the top of the crease at 18:40.

After two periods, Cobourg 9 Brooklin 5.
Shots on goal favored the Kodiaks 19-14.

Third Period:

Brooklin got things rolling in the third with Taggart Clark finishing a Landon Sinfield pass at 1:20, but Zach Thompson replied for the Kodiaks converting a Briley Maxwell feed at 4:56.

Dan Lintner got his second of the game on the power-play off a Chase Scanlon pass at 7:32, followed by Scanlon himself converting a Lintner pass also on the power-play 20 seconds later, bringing the game to within two goals. 

Cobourg got moving again with Alex Marinier finishing an Aaron Woods pass from the outside at 10:14, followed by David Anderson with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Nathan Pouliot pass at 11:20.

Taggart Clark tried to get Brooklin back in the game blasting a Dyson Williams pass in at 14:36, but late goals from Marinier and Will White sealed the deal for the Kodiaks.

Final score, Cobourg 14 Brooklin 9.
Shots on goal favored the Kodiaks 17-12, for a game total of 59-46 in favor of Cobourg.
