BLC Opens 2026 With a Road Win

By Mark Stehlin
The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) commenced their 2026 season at the historic Brampton Memorial Arena with an impressive 13-7 win over the Excelsiors. The roster featured some new names as a result of a busy off-season by General Manager, Gavin Prout. One deal was finalized less than 24 hours before the opening draw and involved the acquisition of Chase Scanlan from the Langley Thunder in exchange for Zak Deaken. The move paid off as Scanlan unloaded for five goals with his new teammates.
“I was impressed how the new guys were able to fit in last night, there was some early signs that timing on offense was there and we know we will be more structured as we move forward,” said head coach Joel Johnson.
“The big take away for me, though was the work ethic and the smart play that I saw out there. I felt we worked hard throughout the night. When the game got a little chippy, we didn’t shy away but we also didn’t fall into the mind-set of getting into penalty trouble,” added Johnson.
It was the Excelsiors who got on the board first, but two power play markers for BLC gave them a lead that they would not relinquish. The score after the first period was 3-2 for the visitors.
It was an oppressive offensive onslaught in the middle frame that defined the win for BLC on the night. Led by Scanlan with four goals in that period and unanswered three and four goal scoring runs by BLC, they took a commanding 10-4 lead into the second intermission.
The Excelsiors played for pride and their fans in the third as the teams ended 3-3 in that frame.
Steven Orleman took the win in net. Less than a week ago he joined his Toronto Rock teammates in celebrating their National Lacrosse League championship after they defeated the Halifax Thunderbirds.
Besides Scanlan and his five-goal performance, Dan Lintner celebrated his long overdue return to the team with a pair of goals as did Linden Sinfield and rookie Lucas Littlejohn. Singles went to Holden Garlent and Will MacLeod. Sinfield and new BLC assistant coach, Steve Jacobs were both on the Snake Island Muskies 2025 Presidents Cup winning team held at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.
The BLC will be on the road to face the defending Six Nations Chiefs on Tuesday night. They will host the Cobourg Kodiaks on Wednesday May 27, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. for their home opener.
