BLC Wrap Up Regular Season with a Road Win

By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) wrapped up their 2025 regular season with a matinee at the Meaford- St. Vincent Community Centre, home this season to the Owen Sound NorthStars. Prior the game both squads were aware of their respective semi-final opponents in the Major Series Lacrosse playoffs. Brooklin finished in third behind Peterborough and will face the Lakers starting later this week. The NorthStars finished fourth and will face the league leading Six Nations Chiefs. Today’s game may have been a formality but both sides came to play looking to ride high into the post-season. It was BLC who came out as victors with a 12-9 win to finish the season at 11-7 while the NorthStars put together a record of 8-10 and took the final playoff spot.

On Wednesday night, Justin Tavares, son of legendary player and coach John Tavares made his BLC debut in Six Nations with his father watching proudly from the opposing bench. This afternoon, Tavares made his second appearance for BLC and scored the opening goal of the game, his first in a BLC uniform, followed by two more for his first Major Series Lacrosse hat-trick.

The teams went back and forth all game as reflected by the period scores. After Tavares got BLC on the board in the opening frame, the NorthStars replied only to watch BLC notch three more to take the lead. As the buzzer sounded to mark the end of the first period, the scoreboard showed BLC ahead by a score of 5-4.

The visitors went on a three-goal run to start the second period including one from Eddie Renaud who normally suits up for the Brooklin Merchants. In a scheduling twist, the Merchants played at the same rink today for game two of their Ontario Series Lacrosse (Sr. B) semi-final against the Owen Sound NorthStars. The home side responded similarly to what they did in the opening frame and the period ended by the identical 5-4 score to make it 10-8 for BLC after forty minutes.

Tanner Buck scored early in the third period before Sean Westley with his fourth of the afternoon and Tavares with his third sealed the deal for BLC.

Scoring – Renaud (2,1) Hickey (1,0) Westley (4,4) Clark (0,6) Lee (0,1) Miller (1,3) Good (1,2) Simard (0,1) Tavares (3,4)

BLC will travel to Peterborough on Thursday July 31 for an 8:00 p.m. game to open their semi-final series against the Lakers. The teams will regroup for game two on Saturday August 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.
