Chiefs Dominate Lakers to Capture 2026 Major Series Lacrosse Championship

The Six Nations Chiefs traveled east to face the Peterborough Lakers in Game six of the Major Series Lacrosse Finals at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario. 

The goaltending matchup had Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers facing Warren Hill in net for Six Nations. 

The Six Nations Chiefs delivered a championship performance on the road, defeating the Peterborough Lakers 10–3 in Game Six to capture the Major Series Lacrosse Finals four games to two. Six Nations seized control with a five-goal opening period, receiving two goals from Ian MacKay and single markers from Dhane Smith, Chris Cloutier and Shayne Jackson. The Chiefs’ defence and goaltending were equally impressive, limiting Peterborough to three goals while holding a commanding 66–41 advantage in shots.

Andrew Kew scored twice and earned first-star honours, while Dhane Smith and Doug Jamieson were named the second and third stars. Tyson Bell sealed the victory with a late empty-net goal, setting off the championship celebration at the Memorial Centre. The Chiefs will now host the Coquitlam Adanacs in the Mann Cup, beginning September 11 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville.

To The Game:

Six Nations opened the scoring when Dhane Smith buried a rebound into a gaping net unassisted at 6:15. Ian MacKay followed by finishing from in front after a Lyle Thompson shot at 13:54, then added his second with a shovel shot off a spectacular behind-the-back pass from Smith at 14:56.

Peterborough got on the board with an outside blast from Rob Hellyer off a Ryan Lanchbury feed at 15:20, but Chris Cloutier answered with a bounced shot off a Smith pass at 17:14. Shayne Jackson completed the first-period scoring with a dive from behind-the-net off a Josh Byrne feed at 19:12.

After one period, Six Nations 5, Peterborough 1.

Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 25-11.

Second Period:

Braedon Saris opened the second-period scoring for Peterborough with a power-play blast from the outside off a Thomas Hoggarth feed at 3:43. Andrew Kew responded for Six Nations with an outside bouncer off a Shayne Jackson pass at 14:58.

Josh Byrne extended the Chiefs’ lead late in the period, diving across the crease to convert a long transition pass from Doug Jamieson at 19:31. Brad McCulley answered for the Lakers just 26 seconds later, bouncing a shot from in close into the far corner at 19:57.

After two periods, Six Nations 7, Peterborough 3.

Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 21-16.

Third Period:

Andrew Kew opened the third-period scoring with an unassisted laser to the far corner at 2:03. Ryan Smith followed with a power-play marker to the top corner off a Chris Cloutier feed at 9:10.

Tyson Bell put the finishing touch on the championship victory, scoring an unassisted empty-net goal at 17:10.

Final score: Six Nations 10, Peterborough 3.

Shots on goal in the third period favored the Chiefs 20–13, giving Six Nations a 66–41 advantage for the game.
