By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) rolled into the Cobourg Community Centre on Sunday afternoon on the back of a two-game win streak. They were looking to exact some payback as the Kodiaks spoiled BLCs home opener on May 27 with a 10-8 win. Tonight, was Northumberland Nemesis Minor Lacrosse Night in Cobourg with future stars on display. By the time the dust settled, BLC managed a 12-10 win good for a 4-2 record and second place behind the defending Mann Cup champion Six Nations Chiefs at 5-0.

It was the host Kodiaks who would strike first as Alex Marinier, a member of the 2025 President Cup finalists Brooklin Merchants, notched his first and second of the night to open a 2-0 lead with five minutes off the clock. Chase Scanlan for BLC answered back just 19 seconds later as he danced in front of the Kodiaks crease before dropping one behind starter Jackson Brown. Taggart Clark with his first of four on the night tied the contest. Scanlan added another to give BLC a 3-2 lead at the mid-way mark of the frame. It was Chris Boushy, fresh off a National Lacrosse League championship with the Toronto Rock, with a highlight reel goal diving from behind the net who took his BLC teammates into the break with a 5-4 lead.

The second period started as the first ended as Landon Sinfield, a member of the 2025 Presidents Cup winning Snake Island Muskies, scored to extend the lead for BLC. Will MacLeod with what is becoming a patented shot drifted from the left of the goalie to the centre of the floor and fired one home to open an 8-5 lead for BLC. It was veteran Reilly O’Connor with his first of two with the game winner with four minutes left in the second. BLC took an 11-7 win into the second intermission.

After O’Connor scored with just 23 ticks off the clock to extend the lead, the Kodiaks worked to give their young fans a show. Marinier with his sixth of the night and Aaron Woods scored to close the gap to 12-9 with eight minutes to go. After O’Connor’s early goal, the Kodiaks switched goalies as Gavin Williamson entered in relief of Brown. Williamson was then forced to run to the bench in favour of the extra attacker as the game wound down. Marinier did manage his seventh of the night in the dying seconds but it as not enough as BLC pulled out the 12-10 win.

“I thought the offense moved the ball really well tonight, they were quick and decisive but in the third when that ball movement slowed I thought we let them back in a little, “said head coach Joel Johnson after the game.

The next game for BLC is Wednesday night at 8 pm when the Peterborough Lakers are in town.
