Dawick, LeClair And Moyer Lead Rock to Big Win Over Lakers

The Peterborough Lakers (5-5) traveled west to face the Oakville Rock (7-2) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario 

The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for the Lakers facing Landon Kells in net for the Rock. 

The Oakville Rock continued their impressive season Monday night, defeating the Peterborough Lakers 13-8 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre behind a balanced offensive attack and timely scoring throughout the contest. After an entertaining opening period that featured six lead changes and momentum swings, Oakville gradually took control, using a four-goal first period finish and a dominant third frame to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Josh Dawick (3G, 4A), Sam LeClair (3G, 3A), Alex Simmons (2G, 4A), and Carson Moyer (3G, 2A) spearheaded the Rock offense, while Mike McCannell added a goal and two assists. Peterborough received a hat trick from Holden Cattoni, while Ryan Lanchbury was outstanding with five assists. Despite battling back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game midway through the second period, the Lakers couldn't contain Oakville's relentless attack as the Rock pulled away with five third-period goals to secure the 13-8 victory.

To The Game:

The Lakers got on the board first with a low to low laser from Dylan Hutchison off a Taite Cattoni pass at 39 seconds, but Carson Moyer answered for Oakville with a bounced shot off a Ryan Barker feed 22 seconds later.

Sam LeClair then gave Oakville their first lead on the power-play with a blast off an Alex Simmons pass at 2:42, but a booming shot from Holden Cattoni evened the score off a Thomas Hoggarth pass at 7:21.

Holden Cattoni then hit a fade away high to low shot off a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 9:22, but Alex Simmons replied from in close off a Jack MacAlpine feed at 9:57 to stop the Lakers momentum. 

Tye Steenhuis got on the scoreboard with a shot from the top of the crease off a Mike McCannell pass at 10:45, followed by a power-play marker from Josh Dawick with a laser off an Isiah Moran-Weekes pass at 19:09.

After one period, Oakville 5 Peterborough 3.
The shots on goal favored the Rock 23-15.

Second Period:

Josh Dawick opened the second period scoring increasing the Rock lead off an Alex Simmons pass at 1:31, but the Lakers replied on the power-play with Holden Cattoni's third of the game off a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 3:48.

Justin Sykes got Peterborough within one with a shot from the top of the crease off a Colton Armstrong pass at 4:18, followed by Jordan Stouros with a great individual effort unassisted at 6:34 to tie the game.

Josh Dawick regained the lead for Oakville with a low laser to the corner off a Mike McCannell pass 20 seconds later, followed by a dunk from behind the net by Sam LeClair unassisted at 12:17.

After two periods, Oakville 8 Peterborough 6.
Shots on goal favored the Lakers 24-20.

Third Period:

Deacan Knott replaced Nick Rose in the Peterborough net for the third period.

Alex Simmons welcomed Knott to the game with a great individual effort scoring from in close off a Josh Dawick pass at 2:18, but Thomas Hoggarth grabbed the rebound off a Ryan Lanchbury shot from in front 17 seconds later.

Carson Moyer added to the Rock lead diving across the crease off a Josh Dawick pass at 7:23, followed by an absolute bomb from Sam LeClair for his third of the night off a Josh Dawick pass at 11:03.

Brad McCulley got one back for Peterborough with an outside blast off a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 13:01, but Mike McCannell fired a low to low laser on the power-play at 14:21 to re-establish the four goal Rock lead.

Oakville sealed the deal with Carson Moyer quick sticking an Alex Simmons pass at 18:58.

Final score, Oakville 13 Peterborough 8.
Shots on goal favored the Rock 17-15, for a game total of 60-54 in favor of Oakville.
