Lakers Dominate Kodiaks with Explosive Second Period

The Cobourg Kodiaks (5-5) traveled to face the Peterborough Lakers (6-5) in  Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Laine Hruska in net for Cobourg facing Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers. 

The Peterborough Lakers used a seven-goal second period to break the game wide open, cruising to an 11-3 victory over the Cobourg Kodiaks on Thursday night at the Memorial Centre. After taking a narrow 2-1 lead into the first intermission, the Lakers overwhelmed Cobourg with relentless offensive pressure, led by a dominant performance from Ryan Lanchbury, who factored into much of the second-period outburst. Brad McCulley and Braedon Saris each scored twice, while Drew Hutchison was steady between the pipes to help Peterborough improve to 6-5 on the season.

Cobourg battled through a difficult night, with Jason Knox scoring twice and Brock Haley contributing a goal and two assists, but the Kodiaks were unable to recover from Peterborough's decisive middle frame. Despite outshooting the Lakers 18-13 in the third period, the damage had already been done as Peterborough closed out an impressive wire-to-wire performance and strengthened its position in the Major Series Lacrosse standings.

To The Game:

The Lakers got on the board with a low to low laser from Frank Coyle off a Colton Armstrong pass at 3:47, followed by Brad McCulley with a blast off a Robert Hope feed in transition at 12:10.

Cobourg got on the board on a two man advantage with Jason Knox scoring on an outside blast off a Brock Haley pass at 15:39.

After one period, Peterborough 2 Cobourg 1.
Shots on goal was tied 16-16.

Second Period:

The Lakers opened the second period scoring on the power-play with Brad McCulley blasting a Ryan Lanchbury pass at 53 seconds, followed by Braedon Saris with a sidearm laser off a Ryan Lanchbury feed at 5:34.

Lanchbury himself then fired a bounced shot off a behind the back pass from Braedon Saris at 8:13, followed by Thomas Hoggarth all alone in front off a Ryan Lanchbury behind the back feed at 10:26.

Justin Sykes added to the Lakers lead with a power-play marker off a Ryan Lanchbury pass 11:12, followed by Adam Jay in transition off a Brenden Boyle feed at 14:42.  Braedon Saris then blasted a Frank Coyle pass at 16:10.

The Kodiaks replaced Laine Hruska with Jackson Brown in net.

After two periods, Peterborough 9 Cobourg 1.
Shots on goal favored the Lakers 21-13.

Third Period:

The Kodiaks showed they had fight with Brock Haley blasting a Shane Halliwell feed at 3:16, but a shorthanded marker from Daniel Clark finishing a Braedon Saris pass at 5:33 stopped the Cobourg momentum.

Jason Knox scored his second of the game for Cobourg off a Brock Haley pass at 8:33, but Ryan Lanchbury replied with a blast off a Justin Sykes feed at 9:07.

Final score, Peterborough 11 Cobourg 3.
Shots on goal favored the Kodiaks 18-13, for a game total of 50-47 in favor of the Lakers.
