The Peterborough Lakers (2-1) faced the Owen Sound NorthStars (0-3) in MSL action Saturday afternoon at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers faciing Kaleb Martin in net for the Owen Sound NorthStars.
The Peterborough Lakers overcame an early two-goal deficit and used a balanced offensive attack to earn a 9-6 victory over the Owen Sound NorthStars. After Owen Sound jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Xander Derkatz and Jackson Webster, the Lakers responded with four of the next five goals, led by Mike Robinson's first-half hat trick and contributions from Zach McLean and Nate Sage. Peterborough carried a narrow 4-3 advantage into the first intermission before extending its lead in the second period, with Robinson adding two more goals to complete a dominant four-goal performance.
In the third period, the Lakers continued to control the pace as Zach McLean and Justin Sykes found the back of the net, while Colton Armstrong's coast-to-coast empty-net goal helped seal the win. Owen Sound received goals from Callum Brennan, Josh Rosa, and Riley Ford, while Xander Derkatz paced the NorthStars offense with a goal and two assists. Robinson's four-goal outing, combined with strong support from Sykes, McLean, and Cam Milligan, proved to be the difference as Peterborough improved with a hard-fought 9-6 road victory over a determined Owen Sound squad.
