Lakers Rally Past Excelsiors 10-6 After Early Deficit

The Peterborough Lakers (9-7) traveled west to face the Brampton Excelsiors (3-15) in a rare Friday night Major Series Lacrosse game at the Memorial Arena in Brampton, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Nick Rose in net for the Lakers facing Connor O'Toole in net for the Excelsiors. 

The Peterborough Lakers erased a three-goal first-period deficit to defeat the Brampton Excelsiors 10-6 Friday night at Memorial Arena. After Thomas McConvey recorded a natural hat trick to help Brampton build a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes, the Lakers responded with one of their strongest periods of the season. Peterborough exploded for seven second-period goals, highlighted by two goals each from Matt Gilray and Thomas Hoggarth, while Holden Cattoni continued to drive the offence with a goal and two assists.

The Lakers carried an 8-6 advantage into the third period and never looked back. Braedon Saris added a power-play marker before Cattoni sealed the victory with a late unassisted goal. Nick Rose was solid after the opening frame, shutting the door over the final 40 minutes as Peterborough improved to 9-7 on the season with an impressive 10-6 comeback victory.

To The Game:

The Lakers got on the board first when Thomas Hoggarth was able to convert a Holden Cattoni pass from the top of the crease at 1:46, but the Excelsiors replied immediately with Erich Acton firing a low shot off a Kealan Pilon pass at 2:51.  

Brampton took their first lead of the night with Thomas McConvey scoring a trio of goals all from Mike Triolo setups.  The first was a blast at 3:38, followed by a beauty coming across the crease at 10:41.  McConvey hit the natural hat-trick with an outside laser on the power-play at 15:49.

After one period, Brampton 4 Peterborough 1.

Second Period:

Peterborough opened the second period scoring with Nate Sage crashing towards the crease off a Mike Robinson pass at 1:05, followed by Matt Gilray going coast to coast in transition unassisted at 3:59.

Thomas Hoggarth tied the game with his second of the night from in close off a Holden Cattoni pass at 3:59, followed by Cattoni himself with a blast off a Liam Patten feed in transition at 11:05.

Brampton tied the game with Curtis Ward finding the back of the net off a Thomas McConvey pass at 12:24, but the Lakers replied with Matt Gilray again going coast to coast unassisted at 15:54.  

Tye Scott again tied the game for the Excelsiors with a high to low shot to the shortside off a Mike Triolo pass at 16:50, but late goals from  Braedon Saris and Colton Armstrong had the Lakers with a two goal lead at the intermission. 

After two periods, Peterborough 8 Brampton 6.

Third Period:

The Lakers opened the third period scoring on the power-play with Braedon Saris converting a Robert Hope feed at 5:21, followed by a late goal from Holden Cattoni unassisted at 19:14.

Final score, Peterborough 10 Brampton 6.
