Rock Outlast Brooklin in Fast-Paced Major Series Clash

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (6-7) traveled west to face the Oakville Rock (9-2) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Steve Orleman in net for Brooklin facing Landon Kells in net for the Rock. 

Oakville made the most of its opportunities Monday night, overcoming a significant shot disadvantage to defeat the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) 11-9 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. While Brooklin controlled possession for long stretches and outshot the Rock 60-42, Landon Kells came up with timely saves and Oakville's offense finished at key moments. Alex Simmons led the way with a dominant performance, scoring three goals and adding two assists, but the team as a whole all contributed to the victory. 


The game featured seven ties and constant momentum swings. Brooklin battled back repeatedly, erasing deficits in both the first and second periods before taking a 7-6 lead early in the third on Dan Lintner's marker. Oakville responded with three unanswered goals in 2:08, including back-to-back strikes from Carson Moyer, to seize control. Chase Scanlon and Dylan Watson kept the visitors within striking distance, but Simmons' breakaway goal off a perfect long lead pass from Sam La Roue with under three minutes remaining put the game out of reach, lifting the Rock to an 11-9 win.

To The Game:

Brooklin opened the scoring with a howitzer from Chris Boushy from the outside on the power-play off a Dyson Williams pass at 3:18, but Josh Dawick answered picking the far corner also on the power-play off an Alex Simmons pass at 5:18.

Simmons himself got on the scoresheet diving across the crease off a Justin Lee feed at 7:59, but a bounced shot from Dylan Watson on the power-play knotted the game once again at 10:31.

Jack MacAlpine gave the Rock the lead once more converting a Carson Moyer pass at 14:38, but Ryan Barnable replied with a low laser off a Dyson Williams pass at 15:43.

Nolan Marshall gave Oakville the lead late in the frame being sent in all alone off a Tye Steenhuis long lead pass at 18:03.

After one period, Oakville 4 Brooklin 3.
Shots on goal favored Brooklin 17-15.
Second Period:

Brooklin evened the game early when Chase Scanlon first faked then shot low from in close at 55 seconds, foĺlowed by Jack Oldman off a rebound 28 seconds later.  

Josh Dawick tied the game with an outside blast off an Isiah Moran-Weekes feed on the power-play at 5:15, followed by a perfect feed from Moran-Weekes hitting Justin Lee on the fly at 7:04 for the go ahead marker in this see-saw affair. 

Matt Acchione tied the game for the BLC on a great individual effort going in all alone unassisted at 13:33.

After two periods, Oakville 6 Brooklin 6.
Shots on goal favored the BLC 22-16.

Third Period:

Brooklin got on the board with Dan Lintner finishing off a Matt Acchione rebound from the top of the crease at 6:23, but Nolan Marshall answered back going coast to coast off an interception unassisted at 9:04.

Oakville took the lead on the power-play with Carson Moyer finding the back of the net off an Alex Simmons feed at 10:45, followed by a bounced shot also from Moyer from the top of the crease off a Josh Dawick pass 27 seconds later. 

Chase Scanlon answered back for Brooklin with a low shot to the far corner from in close off a Lucas Littlejohn pass at 11:45, but Alex Simmons came right back with a howitzer from the restraining line off a Sam La Roue feed 25 seconds later. 

Dylan Watson brought the game within one with a low to low laser off a Dan Lintner pass at 15:55, but after a Kells save in the Oakville end, Sam La Roue hit a long lead pass to Alex Simmons going in all alone making no mistake at 17:11 to seal the deal.

Final score Oakville 11 Brooklin 9.
Shots on goal favored the BLC 21-11, for a game total of 60-42 in favor of Brooklin.
