Second-Period Surge Powers Owen Sound to First Win

The Owen Sound NorthStars (1-7) faced the Brampton Excelsiors (1-8) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Arena in Brampton, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Kaleb Martin in net for the NorthStars facing Riley Hutchcraft in the net for Brampton.
After several close calls this season, the Owen Sound NorthStars finally broke through in a big way, defeating the Brampton Excelsiors 14-7 on Thursday night at Memorial Arena. Owen Sound weathered an entertaining opening period before taking over the game in the middle frame, scoring seven times in just 20 minutes to turn a one-goal contest into a commanding six-goal lead.
The NorthStars showcased their offensive depth with contributions throughout the lineup, while their transition game and power play consistently created quality scoring opportunities. Brampton battled throughout the evening behind Coltrane Tyson's three-goal performance and offensive support from Erich Acton, but Owen Sound answered every push and cruised to a well-earned 14-7 victory.
To The Game:
The NorthStars got out to an early lead with Dylan Watson converting a Jackson Webster pass at 2:51, but The Excelsiors bounced back with Rory Graham finishing a Reed Kurtz pass at 3:03.
Owen Sound continued to pressure with Austin Blumbergs converting a Jeremy Searle pass at 13:43, followed by Greg Elijah-Brown with an outside blast off a Riley Ford feed at 14:21.
Brampton brought the game within one with Tye Scott converting an Erich Acton feed at 15:57, but an Austin Blumbergs blast off a Dylan Watson pass restored the two goal cushion 34 seconds later.
Coltrane Tyson scored late for the Excelsiors off a Nate Ruff pass from the inside at 17:21 to again make this a one goal game.
After one period, Owen Sound 4 Brampton 3.
Second Period:
Jackson Webster increased the NorthStars lead on the power-play with a low to low laser off a Dylan Watson pass at 2:21, followed by Watson himself with a blast off a Xander Derkatz feed at 3:57.
Brampton got back in the game with Coltrane Tyson firing a rebound off a Seth Van Schepen shot on the power-play at 8:40, but markers from Greg Elijah-Brown, Jeremy Searle, and Dylan Watson in a span of 2:08 broke the game wide open.
Erich Acton tried to get the Excelsiors back in the game diving across the crease off a Julian Race pass at 16:28, but Xander Derkatz replied with a beauty finish of a Callum Brennan feed just 17 seconds later.
Brennan then added a tally of his own with a shot to the shortside off a Jackson Webster pass at 17:42.
After two periods, Owen Sound 11 Brampton 5.
Third Period:
Brampton got off to a good start in the third period with Coltrane Tyson picking up a rebound in front of the net just 58 seconds in to complete his hat-trick, followed by a low to low laser on the power-play by Erich Acton off a Tyson pass at 4:58.
Owen Sound then increased their lead once more with a sidearm snipe from Jackson Webster off a Greg Elijah-Brown pass at 8:06, followed by a low to low shot by Riley Ford off a Jackson Webster feed at 14:01. Austin Blumbergs added a little insurance with a screenshot from the outside off a Ford pass at 15:52.
Final score, Owen Sound 14 Brampton 7.
