Simmons And Moyer Lead Rock To Dominant Victory Over Excelsiors

The Brampton Excelsiors (1-5) traveled to face the Oakville Rock (4-1) in Major Series Lacrosse action Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Evan Constantopolous in net for the Excelsiors facing Riley Hutchcraft in net for the Rock.

The Oakville Rock used a strong second period and a dominant third-period outburst to roll past the Brampton Excelsiors 13-5 on Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.  After holding a narrow 2-1 lead through twenty minutes, Oakville erupted for three goals in the second period and eight more in the third, turning a competitive contest into a one-sided affair.  Alex Simmons led the charge with four goals, while Carson Moyer recorded a hat trick and Mike McCannell chipped in a pair.

Brampton showed flashes of offensive success, with Mike Triolo scoring twice and Coltrane Tyson contributing a goal and multiple assists, but the Excelsiors could not match Oakville's depth and pace. The Rock outshot Brampton 44-37 overall and received scoring contributions throughout the lineup, securing their fourth victory.

To The Game:

Oakville opened the scoring with Brooks English finishing a Chris Weier pass at 3:11, followed by Justin Lee with a dunk from behind the net off a Sam LeClair pass at 8:33.

Brampton got on the board on the power-play when Mike Triolo picked the corner from in close off a Coltrane Tyson pass at 12:17.

After one period, Oakville 2 Brampton 1.
Shots on goal favored the Excelsiors 14-11.

Second Period:

Oakville opened the second period scoring when Sam LeClair got his own rebound off an outside shot, beating Riley Hutchcraft from the top of the crease at 2:50, followed by Alex Simmons diving across the crease off a Sam LeClair pass at 4:08.  Simmons then bounced a high to low shot off a Mitch Armstrong pass 0:49 seconds later.

Seth Van Schepen got Brampton back on the board with a low laser off a Coltrane Tyson pass at 5:10.

After two periods, Oakville 5 Brampton 2.
Shots on goal favored Oakville 18-12.

Third Period:

Alex Simmons completed his hat-trick on the power-play with a low to low shot to the shortside at 0:35 seconds, followed by an outside bouncer from Carson Moyer off a Jack MacAlpine pass at 2:36. 

Brett Handsor gave the Excelsiors another goal finishing a Ben Baker feed in transition at 6:28, but Brooks English scored shorthanded for the Rock restoring the five goal lead at 7:51.

Carson Moyer added a goal in transition diving across the crease off a Luke Dawick pass at 9:57, followed by a blast from Mike McCannell off a Jack MacAlpine pass at 10:51.   Moyer then bounced a shot off a Justin Lee pass at 12"03.

Mike Triolo got the Excelsiors a little closer with a laser to the shortside, but Alex Simmons' fourth of the game stopped any momentum Brampton had at 13:25.

Mike McCannell increased the Rock lead getting his second of the night with a shot to the shortside off an Alex Simmons pass at 15:30.  

Coltrane Tyson scored once more for Brampton off a Seth Van Schepen pass at 17:45, but it was too little too late.

Final score, Oakville 13 Brampton 5.
Shots on goal favored the Rock 15-11, for a game total of 44-37 in favor of Oakville.
