Third Period Domination Powered Brampton To It's Biggest Comeback Of The Season

The Brampton Excelsiors (3-13) faced the Owen Sound NorthStars (1-14) in Major Series Lacrosse action Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound, Ontario. 

The goaltending match-up had Connor O'Toole in net for the Excelsiors facing Lucas Johnston in net for the NorthStars.  

The Brampton Excelsiors erased an early three-goal deficit before exploding for six unanswered goals in the third period, pulling away for a convincing 13-8 victory over the Owen Sound NorthStars on Saturday night at Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena.

Owen Sound controlled the opening half of the first period behind a pair of goals from Callum Brennan, but Brampton clawed back with three unanswered of their own, including Tye Scott's buzzer-beater to send the game into the intermission tied 3-3. The teams traded goals throughout a highly entertaining second period, with neither side able to gain separation as the contest remained deadlocked 7-7 after forty minutes.

Everything changed in the third. Owen Scott, Thomas McConvey, Tye Scott (twice), McConvey again, and Curtis Ward powered a dominant six-goal run that put the game out of reach. Owen Sound managed a late goal from Chris Carpenter, but Brampton's relentless attack and shutdown defensive effort over the final twenty minutes secured the 13-8 road victory.

To The Game:

The NorthStars got rolling quickly with Callum Brennan firing high to low off a Riley Ford pass at 51 seconds.  Brennan also foind the back of the net midway through the frame with a great individual effort on a delayed penalty at 9:37. Kaden Brennan then scored going in all alone off a Ryan Andrews pass at 10:57.

Brampton finally got in gear with Kurt Acton hitting a sidearm snipe off a Thomas McConvey pass at 12:26, followed by Caleb Creasor off a turnover going coast to coast unassisted at 19:24.  The Excelsiors tied the game with a buzzer beater from Tye Scott off a Curtis Ward pass at 19:59.

After one period, Brampton 3 Owen Sound 3.
Shots on goal favored the NorthStars 14-13.

Second Period:

The NorthStars regained the lead with Brendan McLeod blasting an outside shot off a Jamie Hunt pass at 2:09, but Brampton answered back with Thomas McConvey dancing across the top of the crease off an Erich Acton feed at 3:45.

Brendan McLeod then got his second of the game with a shot from in close off a Riley Ford pass at 4:24, but Owen Scott scored on a give and go from Kurt Acton to again tie the game at 11:41.

Tye Scott gave the Excelsiors the lead on the power-play with a blast off an Erich Acton pass at 12:46, but Callum Brennan tied the game again with a goal from the top of the crease off a Josh Rosa feed at 15:54.

Michael Blaymires scored with just over a minute left in the frame off a Thomas McConvey pass at 18:39, but Josh Rosa replied off a nice feed from Carter Coffey at 19:24.

After two periods, Owen Sound 7 Brampton 7.
Shots on goal favored the Excelsiors 17-14.

Third Period:

The Excelsiors broke the game wide open with six unanswered tallies in the frame.

Owen Scott opened the third period scoring in transition on a broken play unassisted at 2:53, followed by Thomas McConvey wiring a Rory Graham feed at 9:02.

Tye Scott scored back to back markers.  The first was a beautiful goal from the inside off a Calum MacKay pass at 13:27, followed by a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Neal Adamson pass at 12:31.


McConvey again blasted home a Michael Blaymires feed at 14:06, followed by Curtis Ward with a low rocket that bounced it's way to the back of the net off a Michael Blaymires pass at 15:02.

Owen Sound finally got on the board with Chris Carpenter finishing a Riley Ford pass at 17:36, but the damage had been done. 

Final score, Brampton 13 Owen Sound 8.

Shots on goal favored the Excelsiors 18-8, for a game total of 48-36 in favor of Brampton.
